Author Biography
Richard Box is a practising artist and professional embroiderer. He studied painting at Goldsmiths School of Art in London. Soon afterwards he developed a love of textiles, which led him to experiment with machine embroidery and fabric collage. He spends his time teaching and lecturing on both of his two areas of expertise. He has written a number of books on art instruction and embroidery, he has appeared on television and he writes regularly for specialist magazines.
ReviewsFeb 13 Often when you start an art course or drawing course, it is assumed that you know the basics. If you need basic practice , this is the book for you. It covers mark making, drawing in different media and step by step instructions showing you how to draw different objects. * Karen Platt Yarnsandfabrics.co.uk/crafts * May 13 Unlike most drawing guides, this svelte handbook does not limit itself to black-and-white line drawings but instead devotes a good portion of its pages to color, covering colored pencil, pastel, crayon, and chalks as media. Box (Drawing Step-by-Step) discusses how to mix the colors of a limited palette to produce vibrant drawings. Materials, mark making, tone, texture, and composition are also explained. VERDICT: Teens, young adults, and beginning artists of all ages may pick up this guide for quick drawing inspiration. * Library Journal, USA *
