Reviews

There is more to patchwork and quilting than choosing a block, cutting out the pieces and stitching them together. Here is a useful reference book that explains over 200 different stitches with which to attach your pieces of fabric together and decorate your work using both hand and machine methods. Leafing through this book I was reminded how much I like the Search Press method of laying out a book. The generous staged diagrams, profuse colored illustrations and photographs, sensible headed chapters and even a guide on how best to use the book. Other publishers might be content with coffee table hardcovers but these inexpensive paperbacked books are not only affordable but real primers that you can actually learn something from. They also look good enough to put on your coffee table of course and the mixture of photographs of finished work and drawn diagrams is the perfect way to learn these stitches. As well as a central section showing you how to do them all there are other sections showing you what to buy and why, tips for quilting and patchwork and how best to attach the pieces in a number of classic blocks. The guide to buying different threads, waddings and construction fabric is very useful as it lays out in tables the pros and cons of each, making choosing simpler. I should think that just about any quilter or patchworker of any level will get a lot out of this book - highly recommended.-Myshelf.com Here's an essential reference to over 200 stitches, with easy to follow charts.
