Author Biography
Ayako Brodek's love of origami started when she was a little girl. On long ferryboat rides to her grandparents' home in Shikoku, her mother made origami cranes and boats from candy wrappers to chase away the boredom. Her fascination with origami continued, and after thirty years of folding for personal enjoyments she founded OriCraft to introduce her origami creations to a wider audience. Her focus is on designing origami works of art that can be loved and used in everyday life. Wearable origami is one of her biggest passions, and she has devoted considerable time to exploring ways to transform origami objects into exquisite and durable jewellery. She sells her work at art and craft shows and through her website. She also teaches origami to all ages at local libraries and schools. Juju Vail first starting making things at the age of 9, when she crocheted the Italian flag. Since then, she has felted, painted, crocheted and beaded her way through life, writing books and pieces for magazines as well as teaching and selling her work. Juju was born and brought up in Canada, but has lived in London for the last 18 years. jujulovespolkadots.typepad.com
ReviewsThere is more to papercrafting than just making greetings cards. Before all those store-bought embellishments and die cutting machines there were many traditional crafts such as origami, paper cutting, papier mache and more. Explore them with this exciting new book. As somebody who has eschewed purchasing a die cutting machine because I prefer the more creative methods explored in here opening this book is like walking into Aladdin's cave. Divided into several chapters you can instantly have some hands-on fun as you delve into origami, paper engineering, paper sculpture, paper cutting, book-binding, weaving, quilling, collage, papermaking and papier mache . I can think of others, but this is plenty to be going on with and the beauty of it all is that you truly do not need many materials to have some fun with the humble sheet of paper. Decorate keepsake boxes with quilled butterflies, weave some paper bowls for those party nibbles (no washing up!), make your own decorations, cards that fold flat but open out to reveal 3D wonders within and make a free standing statue from paper pulp. As usual with Search Press books there are plenty of helpful instructions, diagrams of the drawn and photographic variety, inspiring artist's contemporary work and lots of projects you can probably get cracking on as soon as this book drops through your letter box.-Myshelf.com If you want to discover more about paper crafts, then this comprehensive and massively useful book of papercrafting techniques could be right up your street.-Handmade Living
