Description
This book explores the main patterns of Waffen-SS camouflage and dress and describes how to achieve these finishes in clear, step-by-step instructions. Advanced figure sculpting techniques, including conversions, are also featured, providing plenty of detail and diverse challenges to modellers of different abilities. Calvin Tan's superb base artwork and multi-layered painting technique are highlighted in this visually detailed, packed and engaging treatment of one of the most enduring, popular figure-modelling subject areas. The featured subjects include an SS-Sturmmann, an SS-Scharfuhrer, and SS-Schutze, and a Panzergrenadier machine-gunner.
Author Biography
Calvin Tan is one of the foremost figure modellers of the current generation and is a specialist in figure sculpting and painting. A native of Singapore, he has been modelling since his teenage years and has won medals at numerous modelling competitions, including the gold at Euro Militaire 2000. Calvin has created master models for Miniature Alliance and is a regular contributor to modelling magazines, such as 'Military Modelling'. This is his first book.
Reviews"This book is a terrific resource for reproducing the Waffen SS in full detail with clear and concise instruction. I can honestly say that although figures are not my specialty, (but I have done quite a few in my 30 odd years at the hobby), after studying this manual I desperately feel the need to try this authors methods, and do plan to do so in the very near future...Very highly recommended from this modelers point of view." --Mark R. Smith, Historicus Forma (September 2005) "Several areas of confusion constantly arise within the various figure painting forums. One of the most repeated, is the question of SS camouflage schemes. This book takes a fairly unique view on the difficulties for modellers (of all levels and experience) by approaching it from their perspective. This book is excellent but it is NOT and (makes no pretence to be) a 'definitive' guide to SS camouflage schemes, rather it takes a 'catalyst' approach to the subject - therein lies the real strength of the book..." --Jim Rae, Armorama (March 2006)
