Grace Russell has already had to adjust to a devastating accident from which she'll never recover. Now she and her newly-single mother are moving to Flambards house, out in the Essex countryside. For Grace, everything feels wrong.However, in spite of herself, she finds herself becoming involved with two boys: Jamie, who leads her down a path of thrilling freedom, and Marcus, who is dealing with his difficult, potentially violent father. Over time, Grace discovers her own place in this new world.

Linda Newbery has written for young readers of all ages, and is a winner of the Costa Children's Book Prize, with two shortlistings for the prestigious Carnegie Medal as well as many other nominations. She has recently published her first novel for adults, which was a Radio 2 Book Club choice. Linda lives in a small village in north Oxfordshire with her husband and two cats.
