Description
New York, 1948: The art world is ablaze with the pioneering brilliance of Jackson Pollock's 'action painting'. Despite this seismic creative output, Pollock's demons are never far away... Forceful, intense and visionary - in an incredibly short and turbulent life Jackson Pollock changed painting forever. This vivid graphic novel delves into his pioneering physical approach to making art, highlights the key characters surrounding the New York mid-century art scene and reveals the intriguing relationship between Pollock's painting and the covert activities of the Cold War.

Reviews"Pollock Confidential does not appraise or comment. Rather, it captures the insidious co-option of an American artist's legacy in a graphic novel that is very difficult to put down. Shelf Awareness ... a powerful book...The story by Catacchio is moving, shrouded in mystery, and exciting. The art by Catacchio is enchanting. Altogether, a book that is more than must-read but more, a must-have. Graphic Policy Catacchio does an amazing job of fusing the micro and macro bits of this story, holding the larger world in one hand and Pollock in the other, studying both and figuring out how they fit together. along with where they don't - or couldn't. Doing this through a semifictional lens allows for a flexibility that might not otherwise be possible, and it allows for an observer who stands in for all of us: someone with a badge and an assignment granting permission to get involved rather than remain remote and granting him the right to literally knock on Jackson Pollock's door. The Roarbots In Pollock Confidential, they're given a fascinating slice of this mercurial artist's life, a strange marriage between a conservative government intrigue and rebellious creativity. New York Journal of Books The connection between the Cold War and action artist Jackson Pollock is as richly explored as the artist's revolutionary approach to painting in Italian creator Onofrio Catcchio's Pollock Confidential: A Graphic Novel .Library Journal
