ReviewsI have wanted to try quilt making for some time but as a beginner to sewing was a bit daunted by rhe prospect. Janet's book is great for me as it goes through the stages in a way that is easy to understand. There are different levels of quilt making but I'm looking forward to making the 'easy' Falling Arrows quilt. The quilts are colourful and stylish and certainly has started me on the road to quilt making. -- Gill Heesom * Customer review * Really love this book it's perfect for beginners as well as more experienced quilters, I loved the diffrent patterns and the fact that it also gives you both metric and imperial measurements the instructions have been really easy to follow I would definitely recommend this book -- Maggie Bacon * Customer review * There are lots of super quilt patterns in this great book. I'm a beginner but the patterns are well explained step by step so I'm sure I'll progress to the more experienced patterns before too long. They are all modern too - great for the more modern generation of quilters. Each pattern gives skill level and materials required along with step by step instructions. Just love this book and can't wait to get started. -- Tina Stuart * Customer review * This is an ideal book for anyone who has an interest in Modern Quilting. There are projects for beginners and more experienced sewers. Excellent instructions, easy to follow. I have picked up a few helpful hints from it. Everything about this book is inspirational no matter what level or ability you have. The stunning photography to the great fabrics, the quilt designs are clear, with accessible instructions....This book is must-have for anyone interested in patchwork from beginners to experienced quilters. The last chapter is on handy tips which I think should be at the beginning but that is only my opinion. This book is a must for it's clear, precise and stunning photography. -- Tracy Royle * Customer review * I've seen Janet Goddard's patterns in quilt now and I love her style. I've only ever done hand patchwork. I thought it was time to try machine quilting. I'm a beginner and appreciate the book covers beginners as well as the experienced. The book has instructions and clear pictures. It tells you how much fabric is required for each of the 10projects. They are stated from easy to requires experience. I like that it guides you through using a rotary cutter. There's also hints, techniques, info on pressing, quilting and binding. My favourite project is stepping stones that you can use up your scraps with a background fabric. -- Joanne Moorey * Customer review * This is an inspiring book that makes you want to start making a quilt right away. The colour combinations will appeal to all age groups. The instructions are easy to follow. I feel the techniques section could have been at the front for beginners to read before picking out a quilt to make. Personally I would have liked a larger section on quilting by hand and machine. I would recommend this book to anyone who would love to make a fresh modern quilt -- Alison Stevens * Customer review * The quilts in this book are beautiful and quite simple to piece together. There are no templates, so you will need to follow the easy to follow instructions. From start to finish, this book shows you the best techniques to achieve a stunning and versatile quilt. Each quilt is given a skill level, from Easy to Requires Experience, so there is no reason why a beginner should not just dive in and have a go. The quilts are all beautiful. They can be adapted to be made smaller or larger, and with a wide range of fabrics and colour you can make each quilt to your scheme. I am feeling very inspired by this book, and will be making the Sunshine Quilt for a Christmas gift. Watch this space for my finished piece. -- Tracy Shephard * Postcard Reviews * When I had the opportunity to review the latest book by Janet Patch I practically jumped at the chance & I am so pleased that I did, because it is FANTASTIC! If I'm not back soon.....send reinforcements (by that I mean cups of tea & biscuits so you can settle in with helping me audition the fabrics....!!) -- Naomi Clarke * @naomialicec * Modern quilts are increasingly popular and this title presents ten vibrant projects suitable for new and beginner quilters. Based on traditional patterns such as squares, rectangles, half-square triangles and simple blocks, the fabric pieces can all be cut out and joined using quick methods, and the quilts have been designed to be pieced over a weekend or a few weeks. Basic equipment and step-by-step techniques are included, along with 'Handy hints' offering useful tips and advice for each make. Bright prints combined with neutral solids give the quilts a fresh contemporary look, but if that isn't really your style then other fabric choices would produce very different results. * The Quilter No. 156 (Autumn 2018) *
