Description
Welcome to the enchanting world of Henrietta, architect mouse. Her detailed designs are a visual feast, and will delight every imagination. All the animals want to live in a house designed by Henrietta, because she is the only mouse in the world who understands exactly what makes a squirrel or a rabbit, a caterpillar or a frog feel at home. This exquisitely illustrated love song to creativity will fast become a household favourite. 'Each dwelling is lovingly furnished down to the tiniest detail.' The New York Times 'Each house represents not just a life but also a lifestyle.' Slate
Author Biography
Poet, novelist, and TV and children's book writer GEORGE MENDOZA established himself as a top author of his day, publishing over 100 books for children and adults worldwide. In 1968, he was awarded the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award for his novel The Hunter I Might Have Been. Ahead of his time in terms of packaging projects, his phenomenal energy, talent and imagination was reflected in his many collaborations with celebrities such as Carol Burnett and Michel Legrand, renowned artists like Eric Carle and Norman Rockwell, and sports figures including Muhammad Ali and Ivan Lendl. Mendoza's love for sailing and trout fishing may be found in his editions of poetry, including Goodbye, River, Goodbye with photographs by George A Tice. He lived most of his life in New York City, with his wife, Ruth, and his children, Ashley and Ryan.
Reviews'My heart leapt at [this] 1981 gem...a lovely story aiming to awaken in kids a passion for architecture, starring a female protagonist.' Maria Popova, The Marginalin (formerly Brain Pickings) 'Ms Mouse, very attentive to her customers (rabbit, pig, trout or even worm...) offers each time a different house, corresponding impeccably to each one's desires and lifestyle. These timeless homes made a generation of small (and big!) children dream of becoming architects.' Lili L'Archie, archi-serieux et archi-futile d'une archi-tecte 'Meet my heroine, Ms Henrietta Mouse...If this book pops up...grab it. You won't be disappointed, whatever your age.' A Growing Obsession '[T]hrough the alchemical magic of the mouse-protagonist's creativity, each dwelling was not only completely original but also perfectly and absolutely suited to its occupant, in defiance of orthodoxy...one might say that each house represents not just a life but also a lifestyle.'
