Author Biography

Gabriel Gate is a French-born and trained chef with an international reputation as a cookery author, television presenter and cookery teacher. Born in the Loire Valley in France, where his father grew all the family's fruit and vegetables and made wine from the small family vineyard, Gabriel learned the joys of cooking from his maternal grandmother, who was an excellent cook. As a young man, he trained from some of France's finest chefs, working in Michelin-star restaurants. He is the author of more than 22 cookbooks, which have sold more than 1.1 million copies worldwide, including A Taste of France, Delicieux and A Cook's Tour of France. Gabriel has also presented cookery shows on television for the past 35 years, and over the last 12 years has produced and presented 'Taste le Tour with Gabriel Gate', a series of gourmet segments on regional French gastronomy screened during the Tour de France bicycle race in July each year. On Bastille Day 2000 Gabriel was honoured by the French government with 'La Croix de Chevalier dans l'Ordre du Merite Agricole' for his contribution to French gastronomy. Gabriel lives in Australia with his Melbourne-born wife, Angie.
