Description
Famously demanding at times, Neil Young has had an erratic career to say the least, but he has always actively sought new goals to achieve and fresh boundaries to cross. Refusing to be pigeonholed, against the backdrop of a radically changing music scene his work has uniquely reflected the shifting styles of five decades, including rock, punk, electro-pop and the retro-vision of Americana. When Young was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995 by Eddie Vedder, the Pearl Jam singer said Neil was probably the only artist so honored who had truly remained at the cutting edge. Neil Young's later career has been marked by a growing concern for environmental issues, along with charitable work for disabled children through his annual Bridge School concerts. In Neil Young: Heart of Gold, Harvey Kubernik will cover many aspects of this remarkable life with the aid of exclusive interviews conducted with fellow musicians, producers, recording engineers, journalists, music-book authors and fans. Among those featured will be musicians Graham Nash, Nick Cave, Nils Lofgren and Richie Furay, filmmaker Jim Jarmusch, photographer Henry Diltz, producers Jack Nitzsche and Kim Fowley, and many, many more. Kubernik's enduring passion for Young's music first sparked when he saw Buffalo Springfield perform live in 1967. Since then he was had the pleasure of discovering who Young is, through meetings with the man himself, and interviewing many members of his touring ensembles. This book features Young's life history, as well as providing commentary on every studio and live album. New Young: Heart of Gold is the ultimate tribute to one of rock music's true giants.
