Description
In wild times and in wartime, in times of fear and illness, I go to Tintinnabula, where soft rains fall. Tintinnabula is a story about moving from discomfort to peace, from violence and uncertainty to a still, sure place. It reminds us that our best friend in hard times can often be ourselves. Winner of the 2018 Crichton Award for New Illustrators Shortlisted for the 2018 Aurealis Award
Author Biography
Margo Lanagan writes novels and short stories, mainly fantastical. Her work has won a slew of awards, including four World Fantasy Awards, two premier's awards and two CBCA awards, and been translated into many languages. Her most recent novel is Sea Hearts, and her most recent collection of short stories is Singing My Sister Down and Other Stories. The first two volumes of the Zeroes YA superheroes trilogy (written with Scott Westerfeld and Deborah Biancotti) were New York Times bestsellers, and the series concludes in September with the third volume. Margo lives in Sydney, writing in her backyard workroom and singing, reading, cycling and swimming in her spare time. Rovina Cai is an illustrator from in Melbourne, Australia. She creates intriguing images that make you linger, hungry to know the story behind them. Her work is often inspired by the past; from fairy tales to gothic novels, these stories resonate with her because they bring a little bit of magic and wonder to the present day. Rovina has exhibited and worked internationally with clients across a variety of genres, illustrating books, magazines, posters and even a video game. In her spare time she can be found sketching in museums, or working on eccentric craft projects.
Reviews"Image-driven and deeply emotional, this is a lyrical book about a difficult topic that will speak to adults as much as it does to children."--Booklist "Lanagan's story holds out the hope that those who have experienced trauma will find peace and solitude, and that they may discover themselves again." --Publishers Weekly "The brilliant speculative fiction author Margo Lanagan (Black Juice, Seahearts) teams with young Melbourne illustrator Rovina Cai to produce a stunning, seductive picture-book for older readers. . . . While the text echoes the Brontes, Whitman and Yeats, the book holds its own vision. Literary-leaning children, young teenagers and fans of Neil Gaiman and Shaun Tan will adore the journey." --Readings "Cai's artwork brings each page to life; her haunting images and use of soft hues complement the language and add to the overall mood and atmosphere. Cai produced the cover illustration for Lanagan's short-story collection Singing My Sister Down, and they are proving to be a pairing as formidable as Neil Gaiman and Chris Riddell. This book communicates on many levels. The layered meaning makes it appropriate for older children and its lyrical nature and gentle repetition will appeal to the young. All ages will love it for its beauty." --Books & Publishing
