Description
East is your ticket to the vibrant, delicious, aromatic flavours of South East Asia in your own home! A popular holiday destination for Australians, South East Asian cuisine isn't easily forgotten- packed with spices, freshness and surpisingly quick to prepare, it's a delight for the senses! Leanne Kitchen and Andrew Suvalko follow up their compendium on traditional Chinese cooking, The Real Food of China, with this fun and accessible cookbook that is the perfect celebration of the recipes that people love to indulge in on holiday and want to bring home. It is inspired by the authors' personal travels and is designed by flavours- allowing readers to dip in and pick something from here or there to reate their own unique smorgasbord of favourite South East Asian dishes. Chapters are broken down into food categories including snacks and street food; soups and simmered dishes; BBQs and roasts; curries; salads; rice and noodles; and sweets. Dishes come from countries such as Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Laos, Indonesia and Burma. Captured with stunning location photography as well as beautiful food photography throughout, East brings a small glimpse of the bold tastes and big colours South East Asia is known for: food that is incredibly diverse, full of flavour, and based on seasonal produce and easily procured dry goods. East will remind you of the aromas, sights and sounds of South East Asia and will bring them home to your kitchen.

Leanne Kitchen is a chef, writer and photographer with a long career in food media. Leanne spent seven years working as a food and features editor for prestigious food and travel magazines Travel and Leisure, Vogue Entertaining and Travel, Australian Gourmet Travel, and over a decade freelancing for other top Australian and New Zealand publications. In addition, Leanne has worked with chefs and authors on countless cookbooks, as food editor, recipe writer and, most recently, as co-author of The Real Food of China. Leanne has harboured a deep love for, and fascination with, South East Asia for as long as she can remember and has been travelling to the region regularly, writing travel articles and photographing, for 15 years. Antony Suvalko's working background demonstrates his passion for food. Restaurants run in his family's veins, and it was only natural that he followed a similar path. Antony has owned and operated a successful catering company and worked with Illy Cafe to develop their Pacific market. Having embraced digital media Antony launched his own website, www.foodie.co.nz in 2009 to great success, followed by www.smartmouthonline.com, which produces smartphone apps on food destinations. Antony has enormous affection for South East Asian cuisine and culture, as well as recently co-authoring The Real Food of China with Leanne.
