Herb Feith came to Australia as a Jewish refugee from war-torn Europe in 1939 and went on to become an internationally renowned and passionate scholar of Indonesia. He died tragically in Melbourne in 2001. Jemma Purdey is an Australian Research Council Postdoctoral Fellow in the Center of Southeast Asian Studies and the School of Political and Social Inquiry at Monash University. She is author of Anti-Chinese Violence in Indonesia, 1996-1999.
