Description
In the first parachute drop of World War II, the Germans invaded Crete on 20th May, 1941. Creforce details the incredible bravery of the Australian and New Zealand soldiers and of the people of Crete who risked their own lives by harbouring these soldiers during the invasion. The battle of Crete was the first time that invading German troops faced a concerted resistance effort from the civilian population.
Author Biography
Stella Tzobanakis is a Greek-Australian journalist who began her career writing for the English section of Australia's largest circulating ethnic newspaper, Neos Kosmos. From there she moved on to become a journalist for a Greek-Australian business magazine, filing reports from Greece. Today she works as a suburban newspaper journalist. Stella has had direct access to the extensive Greek and Cretan community within Australia and still has family living in Crete today.
ReviewsThe accounts of the Allied soldiers' heroic attempts to fight with a shortage of guns and ammunition, in tattered clothing and shared boots, is deeply moving. * Buzzwords Magazine *
