Description

Sample and learn from a tapestry of the world's happiness philosophies in The Globetrotter's Guide to Happiness. Wherever we are in the world, as humans we're all striving for happiness - a feeling of wellbeing and calm amidst the everyday struggles and chaos. What differs is how we pursue that happiness, and there is a range of practices to be discovered in countries around the globe. From searching for ikigai (the 'meaning of life') in Japan or taking a fika coffee break in Sweden, to heading for the hills to clear the mind in Norway or appreciating the art of gezellig ('cosiness') in the Netherlands. Featuring 20 philosophies paired together with gorgeous illustrations, each chapter in The Globetrotter's Guide to Happiness includes an overview of that philosophy, where it originates from, its meaning to that culture, how it can be adopted by anyone around the world and ways to implement the philosophy in everyday life at home. There's also information on places you can travel to experience the philosophy a little deeper, and interviews with people who very much practice what they preach, all wrapped up in a beautiful package.

Through her travels over the years she has learned first-hand the many ways people around the world strive for happiness and wellbeing. She has spent time meditating in Buddhist temples in Kyoto, Japan; appreciated the art of gezelligheid when researching Amsterdam in the Netherlands; indulged in traditional cooking in the Slow Food birth town of Piedmont, Italy; and practiced Ashtanga yoga in Mysuru (Mysore), India. Kate has worked in-house at Lonely Planet as a commissioning editor, and also written for various travel guidebooks, online and on magazines for companies such as Lonely Planet, BBC Travel, Conde Nast Traveller, Broadsheet Media, Waitrose Magazine in the UK, Visit Victoria and Tourism Australia.
