Description

Upon Florian's arrival to Florida in book one of this bilingual children's book series, the German fly finds a weak and struggling Cuban butterfly named Camila, who has arrived on a cruise ship from Cuba. Using the setting of the beautiful Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, Camila thrives and becomes a friend to many other native butterflies living there. However, jealousy and envy have some who plot Camila's demise. It is only with the help of other species living in the garden that Camila survives. Florian must use his extraordinary wits and abilities to come up with a plan that brings her back to her native island. Will there be enough time to save the small snail population? Will Camila, her friends, and Florian find safety from the approaching storm? This book is written in English and Spanish, fostering the retention and learning of a foreign language. It may also be used by teachers of Spanish or English, as an exciting tale of fortitude and resilience.

Author Biography

Petra spent the first 9 years of her life living in Germany, in a small quaint village on the Mosel River called Reil. She persevered and had careers in international banking, foreign language education, and healthcare administration. Petra loves being on stage, doing voice-over work, offering up presentations to authors and illustrators, students contemplating careers in writing and illustrating, as well as providing readings of her first story, Florian the Fly Flies to Florida, written in both English and German. Dividing her time between Florida and Arkansas, and other states and countries in-between times, Petra loves being outdoors, having become a Master Naturalist and meeting women who enjoy kayaking the White River, as well as hiking in the great outdoors. She invites you to share the new adventure of the globe-trotting fly, Florian, as he helps a Cuban butterfly named Camila return to her homeland, Cuba.
