For Luther Pike it was a dream come true: he was going to be a lawman! Raw and untried, he was nonetheless determined to succeed - even though his first assignment looked like it might be his last. His job was to escort a prisoner to the Capital City jail, but that wasnt as easy as it sounded. His prisoner was the infamous Nellie Dupray, a beautiful but shady woman who had been tried and convicted as a rustler. Nellie had no intention of staying in Luthers custody for long because she had friends - lots of them. And letting a prisoner escape was a shame no lawman could ever live down. Luther Pikes trail to glory had suddenly become lined with more dangers than even most hardened lawmen could withstand. And wearing a star for the first time, it looked all too certain that this challenge would be the end of him. But he had given his word and was determined to see his assignment through to the end.
