Description
I like fights when one side doesnt have a chance, says Matt Sabre in Ride, You Tonto Riders. Sabre arrives in El Paso after having most recently left his job as a marshal of a rough cattle town. Little does he expect to end up siding the widow of Billy Curtin, a man he killed in El Paso, who, on his deathbed, asked Sabre to deliver $5,000 to his wife, Jenny. Matt soon finds himself teamed up not only with Jenny, but with an old man and an Apache half-breed to protect Pivotrock, which is the target in a land grant fight. Matt Sabre himself narrates Riders of the Dawn, in which he arrives in Hattans Point, a place in which he has no particular interest, but two things make him want to stay. The first is that he is told by ranch owner Rud Maclaren that if he is interested in staying in Hattans Point, he has to pick a side in the war over water on Two-Bar land or head out. Both Maclaren, owner of the Bar M Ranch, and Pinder, the ramrod of the CP Ranch, want the water, but it is owned by Two-Bar Ranch owner, Ball. The second thing that makes Sabre want to stay is seeing the woman he wants to marry, and telling her so before he even knows her name.
