Description

This beginner's guide and classroom favorite from the creators of the About Habitats series explores the major attributes of forests. The author, an educator by training, uses simple, easy-to-understand language to teach children what forests are and how various species of animals and plants have adapted to life in these habitats. Noted wildlife illustrator John Sill offers detailed, full-color illustrations to show the characteristics of different types of forests-from the cold boreal forests of the northern hemisphere to the warm tropical forests near the equator-as well as the animals and plants that live there. A glossary and afterword provide further details.

Reviews

"It can be easy to forget that sometimes readers just need a simple concept, presented without bells and whistles: this book does just that. . . This is another strong series book for the Sills and would be a fine addition to elementary school and public libraries." -School Library Journal "The Sills do a good job of showing (and especially identifying) both plants and animals. . . A solid introduction. . . " -Kirkus Reviews "Teachers of young children will welcome this sixth volume of the About Habitats series. Using basic language, Cathryn Sill writes one sentence to describe each of John Sill's beautifully detailed color paintings. . . . This is an effective, gentle, and realistic introduction." -Booklist
