Sage Hampton rode into Eden Valley with a faint premonition of trouble ahead. Before he reached the little cow town of Stirrup, the premonition had given way to a chilling certainty. He learned that his brother Ross, owner of the Flying H Ranch, had been killed two days before. Of late Ross had been writing earnestly to Sage, trying to persuade him to come to Western Nebraska to help him in the biggest project he had ever dreamed up.
