Description

Freedom from addiction is available in the one place that s the most difficult for an addict to be the present moment. In Natural Rest for Addiction, non-duality teacher and addiction specialist Scott Kiloby offers his Natural Rest program for finding recovery from substance abuse and addictions of all kinds through the mindful practice of Resting Presence. If you struggle with alcoholism, drug dependency, or some other form of addiction, you know all too well the urges and cravings that drive your habit. Addiction tells you that something is wrong, that you need something outside of yourself to make you well, something to fill the sense of deficiency you carry inside. These feelings are often tied to deep emotional trauma, anxiety, depression, or pain held in the body that has never fully been acknowledged. But what if you could learn to relax into awareness and accept the difficult thoughts, emotions, and sensations that make you feel like you need to do something anything to change your experience? This book will guide you, step by step, into the natural, open, peaceful awareness that is available to you at all times. Using the mindfulness-based Natural Rest program for recovery, you ll learn how to tap into this present-moment awareness throughout the day, relieving yourself of worries about the future or past by allowing your thoughts and feelings to come and go as they are, without grasping at or trying to control them. You ll also learn about the Living Inquiries, a process of self-inquiry developed by Scott Kiloby to target the beliefs, trauma, compulsions, and triggers that keep you trapped in the cycle of suffering and seeking. At the heart of addiction is a constant, desperate desire to alter what you re feeling, to escape from the here and now, to find relief. With Natural Rest for Addiction, you ll gain a deeper understanding of the complex issues that underlie addictive behavior and learn how to find peace, freedom, and well-being in the present, one moment at a time.

Reviews

"In Natural Rest for Addiction, Scott Kiloby brings his refined practice of present-moment awareness to the healing of addictions and other compulsions, teaching a gentle but deep self-inquiry whose ultimate goal is liberation." --Gabor Mate, MD, author of In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts, and cofounder of Compassion4Addiction (www.compassion4addiction.org) "Kiloby has found that mindfulness training can help anyone struggling with addiction to kick their habit by teaching them how to stay in the present moment. He explains that by naturally resting in a state of presence, one stops looking to the future for ultimate satisfaction. The author offers strategies and exercises that can help combat cravings, encourage positive feelings, and listen fully to what others are saying. Kiloby delves into dissolving physical body contractions, or blockages of energy/repressed emotions, so that true transformation may be achieved and there's no possibility of falling back into the addictive cycle. Kiloby's practical and innovative skills will undoubtedly benefit anyone caught in a cycle of addiction, anxiety, or depression. Recommended." --Library Journal "Scott Kiloby has married deep spiritual insight with practical, doable tools to create a truly new paradigm in recovery. Using the Natural Rest method and the Compulsion Inquiry can bring about profound transformation even in addiction, usually one of the most intractable human challenges." --Fiona Robertson, senior facilitator and trainer of Scott Kiloby's Living Inquiries, and author of The Art of Finding Yourself "Scott Kiloby's book Natural Rest for Addiction is one of the best books for treating all types of addiction. He gives us an honest and clear understanding of the root of the urges and craving that we all know. Scott gives us not only hope for a cure from the symptoms of anxiety, trauma, and depression, but a step-by-step guide to freedom from them. This book teaches us a form of non-dual mindfulness which allows us to discover our deeper nature of well-being that is already okay with everything as it is. Highly recommended!" --Loch Kelly, author of Shift Into Freedom "We're all born with a beautiful mind, but without the owner's manual for operating it! Scott Kiloby's latest book, Natural Rest for Addiction, is the owner's manual we're all yearning to possess. Through simple, direct, and flawless instruction, Kiloby shows us how to navigate difficult emotions, obsessive thoughts, and addictive behaviors. And he exquisitely reveals how to experience our natural state of wholeness--which is already present, but so often misunderstood--in which true and lasting healing is present. I deeply appreciate Kiloby's wise counsel that shows how lasting healing and true health can unfold, no matter our circumstances, through simply learning to rest in our natural wholeness." --Richard Miller, PhD, clinical psychologist, president of the Integrative Restoration Institute (www.irest.us), and author of The iRest Program for Healing PTSD
