ReviewsPraise for Comics: Investigate the History and Technology of American Cartooning Children's Literature This book is jam-packed with information and advice for budding cartoonists... Informative and entertaining, this is a must-have book for any youngster with an interest in comics." Booklist "This appealing offering introduces the art of cartooning to readers who will not only learn the history of comics--using pictures (and words) to tell stories--but also have a chance to do some drawing themselves... The comic (natch) full-color art is presented in a pleasing layout sure to excite young readers." Library Media Connection "Interesting facts with a detailed history of comics makes this concise book a great reference tool ... but its real appeal lies in its topic... this book will take fans on a journey from the creation of comics in cave paintings to current films and the world of web comics." Bookloons "This is an excellent book that not only looks at the history of comics but also explains how to create them. Any child who likes to doodle or draw will probably be interested in this book..." Jon Chad, illustrator and faculty, Center for Cartoon Studies "Tying the technology directly into the history of comics creates a road map that is easy to discern, and indispensable in its charm. For the curious and inspiring cartoonist with an appetite for how comics are made, this book will be a feast!" Tom DeHaven, Professor of English, Virginia Commonwealth University " ... amazing, delightful, and mind-bogglingly comprehensive. As an introduction to comics for young readers, this is obviously the benchmark from now on. A genuinely impressive comics history AND a complete course in comics making AND a canny overview of comics culture. All of it is first-rate." Connie K. Robbins, high school art and science teacher "A great use of illustrations and vocabulary! This book is a tool for teachers looking for ways to engage their students and to integrate a popular form of art within a variety of disciplines." Beth Hetland, cartoonist and faculty, School of the Art Institute of Chicago "Comics is a wild ride through the inner and outer workings of American comics, complete with do-it-yourself activities that cartoonists of any age will enjoy!"
