A wild ride alongside a band of New York City's most feared and respected inhabitants, bike messengers, Pedal follows the frenetic trips and lives of the cyclists who live by their own rules of the road. Going straight to the centre of this urban subculture, Sutherland also highlights in-between events like sprints, distance racing and skid contests, all the while showing us the riders' elegant physicality, complex individuality and unique community that crosses boundaries of race, gender, age and class. The DVD follows the messengers as they make their deliveries on time.

Peter Sutherland is a filmmaker and photographer. In May, 2004, he released his first book, Autograf (available from Turnaround). It received praise from the press worldwide and was supported by an exhibition that showed at galleries including Bape, collete, ICP, Someday, and CC room. He lives and works in New York City.
