Description
Developed by mindfulness researchers Randye Semple and Jennifer Lee, the program in "Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for Anxious Children" can be used in group or individual therapy to help children and adolescents become more aware of the sensations of anxiety and notice how anxiety affects their behavior. This complete guide to conducting mindfulness-based cognitive therapy for children (MBCT-C) for anxiety includes fun and age-appropriate experiential mindfulness awareness exercises therapists can use with anxious children and teens. It includes a full introduction to the theoretical basis and research support for the MBCT-C model and includes sample session dialogues and suggestions for procedural variations for working with children of varying ages, anxiety levels, and types of anxiety. The included CD contains guided mindfulness exercises and printable handouts for each session. Mental health practitioners will appreciate this complete and practical guide to effectively and permanently changing the lives of children and adolescents who have anxiety.

Reviews"Informed by the authors' years of personal experience and rigorous methodological development, this book provides a treatment manual that is both clinically accessible and supported by empirical clinical trials. . . . Semple and Lee's MBCT-C manual is one of the most detailed, thorough, and eloquently written manuals in the mindfulness intervention armamentarium." --Joshua C. Felver, in a review for the journal, Mindfulness, October, 2011 "Semple and Lee do a very good job integrating CBT with mindfulness-based approaches. Where similarities exist they are pointed out and where differences exist they are made known. Primarily aimed at practitioners, this book could also be a valuable adjunctive textbook in any graduate level psychology, psychiatry, or social work program where child- and family-focused psychotherapy are part of the curriculum. This does represent a new and exciting addition to those treatment paradigms focusing on childhood anxiety that have already received empirical support." --Howard A. Paul, PhD, ABPP, FAACP, in a review from the journal, Child & Family Behavior Therapy, June, 2012 "Informed by the authors' years of personal experience and rigorous methodological development, this book provides a treatment manual that is both clinically accessible and supported by empirical clinical trials. . . . Semple and Lee's MBCT-C manual is one of the most detailed, thorough, and eloquently written manuals in the mindfulness intervention armamentarium." --Joshua C. Felver, in a review for the journal, "Mindfulness," October, 2011
