Description
A young girl arrives at a creative solution for peaceful coexistence with the creatures that enchant her but frustrate her father. Elizabeth treasures the rabbits who dance on the lawn in front of her family's summer cabin. On hot, sleepless nights, she goes out and watches the magical, nocturnal scene of gentle rabbits frolicking in the grass to a chorus of night sounds. But the rabbits are eating the grass that her father has cared for all summer, and Elizabeth must come up with a solution to protect both the rabbits and her father's lawn. Illustrator Michael Montgomery's stunning paintings beautifully reflect the elegant magic and mystery of author Lee Posey's touching story about a young girl's special relationship with the natural world.

Reviews"Posey sets a contemplative mood. . . . [her] languid pace feels like an expression of her tranquil setting, and she depicts both the bond between father and daughter and Elizabeth's resourceful solution realistically. She also displays a knack for description. . . . Montgomery's expansive paintings favor the subdued but auspicious lighting of early summer evenings, when time feels distended. . . . he sustains the story's unhurried, summertime mood."-Publishers Weekly "Just as adults need engaging summer reading, children should have some as well. Night Rabbits tells its simple story with just a hint of suspense to keep the pages turning. . . . [Posey] tells the tale with a hint of laid-back regionalism in her refreshingly unhurried storytelling-as well as with a sensitive feel for nature. . . . Montgomery's detailed, dynamic paintings nicely complement the text, and capture the sense of place so well you'd swear you could hear the crickets chirping yourself."-The New York Times "Understated, lyrical text. . . handsome realistic paintings. . . a story of loving connection between child, parent, and the natural world."-Booklist "Elizabeth discovers that conflicts with parents can often be resolved more easily than one might think. . . . This [is a] gentle problem-solving story"-School Library Journal
