Description

This is a handbook on how arts and cultural organisations can attract ethnic minorities and involve them as audiences. Acknowledged as America's foremost expert on multi-ethnic audience development, Donna Walker-Kuhne, herself a black woman with a career-long involvement in the arts, has now written the first book describing her methods. By offering many proven strategies for developing and sustaining non-traditional audiences, the book offers many stimulating ideas for artistic directors, marketing executives and others in the British theatre involved in audience development. Donna Walker-Kuhne has spent the last twenty years applying and refining the principles outlined in the book. She has had notable success in many areas but most notably in transforming audiences at the New York Public Theater, one of the USA's most important and visible arts organisations. This book is a practical and inspirational guide to ways in which culturally diverse communities can become engaged in theatre and the arts.
