Houston pulls from personal experiences, the beauty of nature, and history. His characters are both real and fictional. He focuses on characters that often go overlooked or are misunderstood through a method of poetic story telling. Houston writes certain poems and reflections to poets and authors of the past. The book also focuses on issues such as gender, faith, relationships, love, race, poverty, refugees, immigration, and homelessness.

Ian Houston lives in Virginia outside Washington, DC. He has spent his career in international relations advocacy, public policy, non-profit management, and as a communicator. He is a dual citizen of the US and UK. He and his wife, Jo, have three grown children.
