Vernae Bezear has worked professionally in the field of education for over 20 years. She holds a Master's Degree in Elementary Education and another in School Administration. She is currently an Instructional Coach and certified Reading Recovery Specialist within the NYCDOE. Vernae is a board member on the New Teacher Center Equity Commission tasked with recentering the humanity of educators, families, students, and communities, to create new systems which create equitable results for all. She is also trained in Social Emotional Learning, Restorative Practices, and Culturally Responsive Education. Vernae is a wife and mother of two children (Donovan and Angelica) who grew up as the eldest sister of eleven siblings. Vernae poured her vast experience with children and education into The Gelli Belle series as a fun means of teaching her daughter Angelica valuable lessons about life.
