This book is a step-by-step guide for women who have or may have PCOS. Polycystic ovary syndrome is a complex condition and there is confusion about the correct diagnosis and management, even among doctors. Knowledge is power. Women who have basic knowledge about PCOS can communicate better with their doctors and make good choices about their management plans. Many women complain that they do not know why they are having certain symptoms or why their bodies are changing. They also want to know what all the blood tests mean and why they are taking medications and for how long. This book answers all these questions using examples, photographs, illustrations, and questionnaires. While reading this book women will 1) recognize their own symptoms and clinical signs of PCOS; 2) understand the hormonal changes causing irregular periods, excess hair, weight gain, and hypoglycemic symptoms; 3) learn the most useful tests necessary for correct diagnosis, and the wasteful tests; 4) learn the best treatments for different presentations of PCOS; and 5) learn about additional medical conditions they need to be aware of.Readers will have a virtual consultation visit by writing their medical history, organizing their laboratory tests, and setting personalized goals as if they are in the doctor's office. The best choices for their personal management plan will become clear. This book will take away the mystery and confusion about PCOS and empower women.
