Description
Humorous autobiography by archaeologist Roger T. Grange, Jr., including tales from his childhood growing up in Chicago--through years of field excavations throughout the United States, Newfoundland and Quebec, while raising a family--to his later years of "retirement" in New Smyrna Beach, FL.
Author Biography
Roger Tibbetts Grange, Jr., an archeologist, has led excavations of colonial and prehistoric sites across the United States as well as in National Parks in Newfoundland and Quebec. He grew up in Chicago, where he earned Bachelor of Philosophy and Master's degrees from the University of Chicago. He went on to receive his PhD in Anthropology from the University of Arizona. He founded the Anthropology Department at the University of South Florida, Tampa, where he taught for 30 years. During his tenure, he did stints as a professor and volunteer archaeologist crew member in England and as a visiting professor in Australia. In his retirement, he and his late wife, Jane, enjoyed travelling--especially by cruise ship--and visited every continent in the world at least twice. He has enjoyed many years of surfing in his home town of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, and in recent years has rediscovered painting. He is a volunteer archaeologist at the New Smyrna Museum of History, focused on the 18th-century Smyrnea settlement.
