Description
Imagine a working violin only two inches long . . . a lit crystal chandelier that fits in the palm of your hand or dovetailed replicas of rare antique furniture created with 300-year-old wood. Everything is possible in the Kathleen Savage Browning Miniatures Collection, where one woman's affection for perfectly scaled tiny items grew into one of the most acclaimed collections of fine art miniatures in the world.Today, thousands of 1/12-scale art objects are displayed in fully furnished homes, room boxes, and vignettes in the gallery at the Kentucky Gateway Museum Center in Maysville, Kentucky, and collector Kaye Browning is known internationally for her quest to preserve the art form. She shares her stories of collecting over four decades in an intensely personal account of her journey, her relationships with master craftsmen, and her sincere love of the age-old art. You'll feel like you've made a new friend as you discover her joy for miniatures, find out what makes them collectible, and see them up close on the pages of her first book.
Author Biography
Kaye Browning is the curator and creative energy behind the Kathleen Savage Browning Miniatures Collection in Maysville, Kentucky. Her journey into miniatures started with a gift some forty years ago and has since developed into one of the most extensive collections of 1/12-scale fine art miniatures in the world. Kaye's collection features miniature working instruments and tools, replicas of rare museum works, and furnishings which have been created using the same materials and techniques artisans used centuries ago to create the full-sized items. Love of history and craftsmanship first drew Kaye to fine art miniatures and today she is devoted to publicizing the art form and its artisans. As a prominent collector, she shares her knowledge and expertise through lectures and tours of the KSB Miniatures Collection, a 3,300-square-foot gallery located within the Kentucky Gateway Museum Center. A member of the International Guild of Miniature Artisans (IGMA) and the National Association of Miniature Enthusiasts (NAME), she is regularly featured on television and in publications worldwide.
