He sleeps a lot even in the cinema and when he's awake, he's always hungry, usually eating up all the honey. what else could Dad be? But sometimes, when it's scary at night, a lovely big bear hug is just what is needed. A hilarious debut picture book written by Swapna Haddow author of the Dave Pigeon series and illustrated by the brilliantly talented Dapo Adeola author of Look Up!

Swapna Haddow trained as a doctor, but after discovering she didn't like blood, decided on a career change and wrote her first book Dave Pigeon: How to Deal With Bad Cats and Keep (most of) Your Feathers, which won the Greenhouse Funny Prize. Swapna now lives in New Zealand with her husband, their son and their dog. You can usually find Swapna writing, reading or eating Jaffa Cakes. His first book, Look Up! was written by Nathan Bryon and published by Puffin in June 2019 to great acclaim. Born in Britain and of Nigerian heritage, Dapo's work tends to revolve around creating characters and imagery that challenge gender norms and equality politics in a fun and upbeat manner. An avid believer in the importance of equal representation in the creative arts, Dapo runs illustration and character design based workshops with children in and out of schools to help highlight the possibilities of a career in illustration to inner city children of various ethnicities. Dapo lives in London.
ReviewsSwapna Haddow and Dapo Adeola's My Dad Is a Grizzly Bear (Macmillan) is a feast of sly visual jokes and loving fun poked at a hulking, hairy, silhouetted father, with bouncy interwoven repetition that makes it huge fun to read aloud. -- Imogen Russell-Williams * Guardian * The book to rush out and buy for Father's Day: about all the bearish things a dad does, the best of which is give bear hugs. Cartoony pictures are busy with comical details, and the text is lively, observant and relatable. * The Times * With some lovely words and beautiful illustrations, the book carries the reader away on adventures, camping under the stars and looking for bears in the forest. Meanwhile, dads everywhere will sympathise with the father and his scratchy beard. -- Roddy Brooks * Independent * My top pick for Father's Day is this big-hearted look at family life, seen through the eyes of a little boy with a big imagination, replete with humour and warmth, and playful, energetic art from rising star Adeola. * Bookseller, editor's choice * A funny and heart-warming tale of a boy's adventures with his family and Dad who he imagines to be a Grizzly Bear.
