Description
Zygmunt Bauman is known internationally as the sociologist of postmodernity and 'liquid' society, but he was also a serious photographer. This book presents his black-and-white photographs from the 1980s, together with a set of essays by colleagues, friends and family. The contributors explore the connection between Bauman's sociology and photography, his interest in film and more. Bauman's wife, Janina, appears prominently throughout, both in photographs and in discussions of her place in Bauman's life and work. The book concludes with an essay by Karl Dudman, one of the Baumans' grandchildren, based on a series of photographs he himself took in the family home shortly after Bauman's death.
