Reviews...Ann's journey to freedom is harrowing and heartbreaking, and of course, so many stories like hers were anything but happy. This is a very cool book for young readers (8-12) who are learning more about slavery and its terrible place in our nation's history. There's some great backmatter, too, including an author's note with lots of information, discussion points and a glossary.-- "Girls Read the World" What if the I Survived series focused more on female, historical heroines? That's what the new Girls Survive series sets out to do. . . .Each book in the series--which includes books on the Titanic and the Civil War--includes historical context, discussion questions, and glossaries for those inclined to the historical side.-- "Barnes & Noble Kids, 5 Books for Fans of the I Survived Series"
