Description
Imagine having instant access to the world's smartest thinking on presentations - and being shown exactly what to do to guarantee that you get your own presentations right, every time. Presentation Genius makes it easy to apply what researchers know about brilliant presentations to the real world. 40 chapters based on hundreds of cutting-edge business and psychology research projects reveal what works and what doesn't work when you're presenting. Each of the 40 chapters is a mini-masterclass in presentations, explaining the research and showing you how to apply it next time you present. In business, conventional wisdom often says one thing while research says another. Presentation Genius cuts through the noise to bring you proven research and techniques for applying it that will simply make you a better presenter. Quick to read and intensely practical, this book will bring a little presentation genius into your day. 'This book will make you a better presenter' Paul McGee - The Sumo Guy. International speaker and bestselling author 'What a great little book! There is something here for everyone. Experts will find new ideas (and some science) to test and polish their performances; novices will get a flying start with a whole range of presentation skills, which the rest of us had to learn by trial and error' Peter Judge, MBE, Attorney General of the Falkland Islands and South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands 'An invaluable aid to anyone who wants to be sure to get information of any type across to audiences of all sizes' Dr Joanna Berry, Director of External Relations at Newcastle University Business School
Author Biography
Dr Simon Raybould started his career as a research scientist looking at the causes of childhood cancers. He spent more than two decades in research, gaining an international reputation and being published in a remarkably wide range of journals. The greater part of his research was directly policy-orientated and he became interested in how scientific research is communicated, explained and applied (or not!). To that end, he left research to concentrate on explaining research to people in the 'real world' so that they can benefit from what scientists already know but haven't got around to telling people! Now, Simon is a full-time trainer, specializing in helping people make better presentations. He's worked throughout the UK and abroad, with clients ranging from solo entrepreneurs to top staff at Dunlop and Dell Computers and from NHS personnel to politicians and researchers. Simon's varied and unconventional career path has included working as a teacher (though not very much and for not very long); as an actor, playwright and author; as a lighting designer, specializing in dance productions; and as a fire-eater! An adopted Geordie, Simon lives in the North-East of England with his wife, Corinne, and two daughters.
ReviewsThere is no presentation this book wouldn't improve. Whatever your experience of presenting and whoever your audience, this book will make you a better presenter. -- Paul McGee - The Sumo Guy, international speaker and bestselling author What a great little book! There is something here for everyone. Experts will find new ideas (and some science) to test and polish their performances; novices will get a flying start with a whole range of presentation skills, which the rest of us had to learn by trial and error. Simon Raybould's accessible and charming writing style makes you feel as though you are having personal expert tuition. It is a great read, whether reading from cover to cover or just dipping into during your coffee break. -- Peter Judge, MBE, Attorney General of the Falkland Islands and South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands This book is an invaluable aid to anyone who wants to be sure to get information of any type across to audiences of all sizes. The author has managed to distil detailed, complex scientific evidence into manageable and accessible chapters, with a wealth of further information clearly signposted at the end of each. Every chapter stands alone but there is a useful guide to chapters that might be read together for a more in depth investigation into the many aspects of successful presentation technique covered here. From managing presentation nerves to ensuring audience understanding and retention of information, from font and animation advice to content management, the author has brought together every aspect of successful presentations in one place. An invaluable read for anyone interested in refining and improving their presentation technique, no matter how experienced they are. -- Dr Joanna Berry - Director of External Relations at Newcastle University
