Reviews

How many textbooks do we see that do not always do what a syllabus needs? This book is an exception and here we have the best Common Entrance text Book I have seen over my 45 years of being involved with Prep school geography. Not only is it spot on for the Common Entrance syllabus but also it has excellent and new case studies and allows the teacher to be secure that the pupils are going to have the resources for a new and very updated syllabus. Too many textbooks have too much detail for Years 7 and 8 and John has produced a book that contains enquiry for the pupils and enough information to answer the questions and allow pupils of all abilities to enjoy their geography while extending their knowledge, skills and understanding. On top of this with the development of the book as a whiteboard eTextbook and with teaching and Learning resources, John with Hodder have produced the full package for challenging pupil's thinking and deepening their understanding with the stimulating activities and very up to date case studies. The last section on the Fieldwork enquiry is also a useful resource for both teachers and pupils. I highly recommend this Common Entrance series and would suggest that it should be top of your shopping list for September 2014. -- Paul Baker, Geography Adviser to the IAPS and Chair of the GA ISSIG
