Description

Praise for the Lottie Albright mysteries... "Hinger's debut...holds your attention every exciting step of the way." -Kirkus starred review of Deadly Descent After a gruesome killing at the Carlton County livestock feedyard, Sheriff Sam Abbot, Undersheriff Lottie Albright, and her ranching husband deputy know their resources are over-stretched. Lottie-still director of the historical society-calls for stories from families whose ancestors colonized Kansas. Dona Francisca Diaz is the ancient head of one such clan. Her great grandson Victor was the murder victim. Francisca, a fabled curandera with terribly damaged hands, insists she knows why. The key, she claims, is in ancient documents. And now Francisca wants Lottie to train as her heir. Reluctant yet fascinated, Lottie agrees. Does this family's secret hold the key to murder and other terrible crimes? Reviews

Lottie Albright, undersheriff of Carlton County, Kansas, isn't too thrilled with her latest assignment--going undercover at a livestock feed yard to investigate a man's death. Apparently there are some illegal activities going on in which the sheriff himself might be involved. Convinced that the sheriff is being wrongly accused, Lottie vows to clear her friend and colleague's name. This is the third Albright mystery, and, like the previous two, it draws on Lottie's other occupation--historian--to tell a story in which a modern-day crime connects with mysteries from the past. The author adroitly juggles the primary story with a subplot concerning the effects Lottie's secrecy about her assignment are having on her family. --Booklist This third case for Lottie (Lethal Lineage, 2011, etc.) is filled with surprising historical information, social commentary, romance and a strong mystery.--Kirkus "...a whodunit that will keep the reader turning the pages until the dramatic conclusion." -Publishers Weekly review on Lethal Lineage "Deftly drawn characters and a complicated but believable mystery leave you yearning for more." Kirkus review for Lethal Lineage "Historical research is anything but dull in Hinger's debut, which holds your attention every exciting step of the way." Kirkus Starred review for Deadly Descent
