Description
This is a lush, expansive poster portfolio book featuring 12 removeable prints of the most popular Hindu Deities and scenes from Hindu mythology, by artist Sanjay Patel. Each full-colour poster shows off Patel's gorgeous graphic style of cute-meets-modern, taking on some of the oldest and most recognizable Hindu iconography in a fresh and entertaining way. The posters will include concept sketches and information about the deities on the back, which is sure to be a big draw to illustration fans, parents and those interested in a modern take on Hinduism.
Author Biography
When he's not writing and illustrating, Sanjay Patel is an animator and storyboard artist for Pixar Animation Studios, where he has worked on features that include Monsters, Inc., A Bugs Life, Toy Story 2, Ratatouille, The Incredibles, Toy Story 3 and Cars 2. Patel has also worked on The Simpsons and with legendary cartoonist John K., creator of Ren and Stimpy.
Reviews...a stunning large-format portfolio of 12 removable full-color posters, each bringing a revered ancient deity into the modern Technicolor world in Sanjay's signature anime-inspired vibrant graphic style. Equal parts playful, iconic, and irreverently subversive, the prints are less about reinforcing religious ideology - okay, they're actually not about that at all - than they are about exploring cultural storytelling and tradition from a fresh, unusual angel meant to delight and inspire. - Brain Picking Patel's illustration style is quite original and forceful. A strong sense of design, the colors and nuances of the book are very delicate, and Chronicle Books has done a wonderful job of capturing these in the printing and layout. -Michael Sporn Animation
