Description

At a time of huge global challenges, youth participation is a dynamic lens through which all community development scholars and participants can rethink their approaches. Young people are often at the forefront of democratic activism, whether self-organised or supported by youth workers and community development professionals. Focusing on youth activism for greater equality, liberty and mutual care - radical democracy - this timely collection explores the movement's impacts on community organisations and workers. Essays from the Global North and Global South cover the Black Lives Matter movement, environmental activism and the struggles of refugees.

Reviews

"This timely book focuses on how more radical practices might be needed to challenge and overcome injustice. The sharing of global challenges and examples will appeal to numerous subject disciplines, and will be well received by academics and students alike." Alan Smith, Leeds Beckett University "This inspiring collection successfully rediscovers 'community as a verb' and cultivates 'educated hope' for radical democracy and its possibilities. A pleasure to read, and a powerful resource for scholars, activists and community developers alike." Jacqueline Kennelly, Carleton University
