The focus of this book is the social production of harm associated with pharmaceuticals and medicines and the contribution of pharmaceuticals to inequalities in the global burden of disease. While this entails a focus on the pharmaceutical industry, including the part played by transnational corporations and national pharmaceutical companies, it also draws on an analysis of the part played by national governments, international agencies such as the World Health Organisation, the World Trade Organisation and the World Bank, and by global public-private partnerships such as the GAVI Alliance (the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation).
