Description
Claude in the City was selected for the Waterstone's Children's Book Prize 2012 and the Richard and Judy Book Club 2011. This is the fourth title in the series. A quiet walk in the country turns into a busy day on the farm when Claude ends up mucking out the pigs, feeding the chickens, and lassoing a fearsome bull! An hilarious series for new readers and also great for sharing. There are two new books to come - Claude in the Spotlight (April 13) and Claude on the Slopes (Oct 13).
Author Biography
After briefly considering careers in space travel, cookery and being a rabbit, Alex T. Smith finally decided to become an illustrator. In 2006 he graduated from Coventry University with a degree in Illustration and won second place in the Macmillan Prize for Children's Illustration. For such a young newcomer, Alex has already achieved great things. His first fiction series - Claude - has been selected for the Richard and Judy Children's Book Club 2011 and Bella and Monty recently won the Dundee Award. Eliot Jones, Midnight Superhero (Scholastic) was the first picturebook Alex illustrated and it won the Coventry Inspiration Book Award, and was longlisted for the Greenaway Medal in 2009. Alex was also shortlisted for The Best Emerging Illustrator by The Book Trust in 2008. He has since written and illustrated his own picture books including Egg (Hodder), Bella & Monty (Hodder), Home (Scholastic).
ReviewsA wonderful creation for newly independent readers. - The Bookseller A treat for new readers. - Peters Gazette Comic talent not just for writing a good story but also illustrating it in a fitting but hilarious style. - Books For Keeps I loved everything about this book. - Bookbag Thank goodness Alex T Smith is doing such a grand job of continuing to feed my Claude habit. I do like to steal the Claude stories away from my daughter and curl up to read them myself as they always cheer me up. Smith has great style in his artwork, and a real sense of fun, and he matches it perfectly with the cleverly crafted stories. * * * * * - Bookbag Another Claude book - wonderful! Excellent for newly confident young readers... beautifully produced too. - parentsintouch.co.uk Quirky illustrations and a truly endearing central character make this a winner for both children and parents. - World Book Day Children and adults will love Claude's exploration of the countryside... a hilarious addition to this stylish series. Claude really is the cream of the crop for younger readers. - We Love This Book
