Born in 1962 in Denver, Colorado, Scott Nickel works by day at Paws, inc., Jim Davis's famous Garfield studio, and he freelances by night. Burning the midnight oil, Scott has created hundreds of humorous greeting cards and written several children's books, short fiction for Boys' Life magazine, comic strips, and lots of really funny knock-knock jokes. He was raised in southern California, but in 1995 Scott moved to Indiana, where he currently lives with his wife, two sons, six cats, and several sea monkeys. C.S. Jennings has been a freelance illustrator for over a decade. Jennings has created caricatures, editorial cartoons, greeting cards, t-shirt art, logos, children's book, card games - you name it. he also wrote and illustrated the children's picture book Animal Band. In 1994, he won an Addy Award for his work in advertising.

Chip Stone is just like any other kid attempting to navigate his way safely through junior high. He enjoys hanging out with his best friend, Spencer, while trying to catch the eye of popular Jennifer Jones and avoiding the ire of local bully Troy Perkins. All of this changes, however, when Chip suddenly discovers that when he gets upset, he becomes the Incredible Rockhead. As Chip tries to figure out his newfound ability to smash through walls, an emergency arises during a field trip to the city zoo. The animals have escaped and are endangering the students, including Chip's crush, Jennifer! Does the Incredible Rockhead have what it takes to save the day and capture Jennifer's heart? Maybe he can with the help of his trusty sidekick, Scissorlegz! This cute, quick, gentle read would appeal to young readers who are not quite ready for the excesses of big-time superhero comics. In terms of dialogue, humor, and atmosphere, this title would appeal to fans of cartoon series such as the PowerPuff Girls.-- "Booklist" I liked everything about the book. Instead of becoming super strong, be able to fly, and do other cool things, Chip's head turns into a rock. In this adventure, he is at the zoo when some animals get out of their cages. He is able to knock the animals out with his head and save the popular girls. Final Verdict: Definitely a fun adventure for those students that can relate to being the odd man out, or just a bit nerdier than everyone else. Still has that comic book hero side to it, while combining more elements of life as we know it.
