Description
Step into the world of The Secret Garden with this beautifully illustrated paperback edition of one of the best-loved children's stories. When orphan Mary Lennox arrives from India to live with her uncle, everyone at Misselthwaite Manor thinks her a most disagreeable child. Then one day she discovers a secret garden, locked and hidden for ten years. With the help of a young boy called Dickon and her spoilt, invalid cousin, Colin, Mary brings the garden back to life; and as she does, the mystery behind it is revealed. An instant classic, The Secret Garden has been cherished by generations of readers since its publication in 1911. Stunningly illustrated by Inga Moore.
Author Biography
Frances Hodgson Burnett (1849-1924) wrote over 40 in her lifetime, including many for adults, but she is most famous for her children's books Little Lord Fauntleroy, A Little Princess and The Secret Garden, most of which was written in a walled rose garden during a stay at an English country house. With a career in illustration spanning over 30 years, Inga Moore is a highly distinguished author and illustrator of children's books, who has illustrated numerous classics to much critical acclaim, including Kenneth Grahame's The Wind in the Willows, Frances Hodgson Burnett's The Secret Garden and Oscar Wilde's The Canterville Ghost. Her other picture book titles include A House in the Woods, Captain Cat and the award-winning title, Six Dinner Sid, which continues to grace bookshop shelves 20 years on from publication. Born in Sussex but raised in Australia, Inga returned to England as an adult and now lives in Herefordshire.
ReviewsMoore brings soft, old-fashioned, pastoral sweetness and miniaturist detail to The Secret Garden. * The Times * Inga Moore's enchanted garden - topiary, mist and frost - perfectly catches the rapt quality of Burnett's writing. * Observer * Featured/recommended * Times Herald (Port Huron, MI) (syndicated from Kendal Rautzhan) *
