Reviews

Hello Genius, a new series of board books, offers bold graphic illustrations and one manners word or phrase at a time. Titles include Mouse Says "Sorry," Hippo Says "Excuse Me," and Bear Says "Thank You." In Penguin Says "Please," Penguin starts out being bratty, demanding things without saying the magic word. By the end he learns how to ask politely and is rewarded with the things he requests. It's a simple lesson that's useful to learn as early as possible.-- "Horn Book Magazine, "What Makes a Good Manners Book?"" It's so charming when a bear says thank you. In this ubersimple introduction to manners, Little Bear--who is of the polar variety--asks his mama for all kinds of art supplies (including glitter), and he thanks her after she hands him each item in turn. He ultimately puts these items to use in creating a special card for Mama Bear. This oversize board book is cheerful and bright and features an adorable, toddler-like bear. Each "Thank you!" appears in large type on its own page, thereby reinforcing the lesson in politeness.-- "Booklist Online"
