Description

This Handbook covers a wide range of historical perspectives, realities, research and practice of internationalization of higher education (IHE) in the global south and makes comparisons to IHE issues in the global north. Drawing on the expertise of 32 academics and policy makers based in and originating from four key regions of focus: Sub-Saharan Africa; North Africa and the Middle East; Asia Pacific; Latin America and the Caribbean. Across 24 chapters the editors and contributors provide a diverse and unparalleled expose of the status and future aspirations of institutions and nations in relation to IHE. This is the first comprehensive analysis of this growing field and expands the scope of research in the field of comparative and international education in terms of theory and policy development. It will be of value to leaders, practitioners and scholars in providing a more globally-inclusive frame of reference on this important topic. * Elspeth Jones, Emerita Professor of the Internationalisation of Higher Education, Leeds Beckett University, UK * The first and only book focusing on higher education internationalization in the Global South. It is comprehensive and a significant contribution. * Philip G. Altbach, Center for International Higher Education, Boston College, USA * An endeavoring and necessary compendium to understand the challenges and practices of higher education in the developing world. It is certainly a must-read book for anyone interested in higher education cooperation in a continuously changing globalized world. * Marcelo Knobel, Full Professor of the Gleb Wataghin Physics Institute (IFGW) and Rector of the University of Campinas, Brazil * This publication, bringing together a team of established and emerging experts, provides a comprehensive account of IHE in countries that are not normally covered in the literature. This is highly commendable. Such effort will facilitate comparisons across regions and nations towards a more holistic understanding of IHE. * Morshidi Sirat, Professor and Director, Commonwealth Tertiary Education Facility (CTEF), Penang, Malaysia * Provides a substantial consideration of international education policy, and practice from selected higher education settings, particularly involving universities. * Comparative Education *
