Description
Many crafters express their frustration at the paint-by-numbers approach of hooked rug kits and project books, and are looking for a more creative approach. This book answers the need for guided design that leaves space for your own creativity. The Contemporary Rug Designer will turn any novice into a hooked rug artist - as well as starter projects teaching basic techniques, there's instruction on working a colourful range of different elements that you can build into new designs to create your own custom hooked rug, hanging, cushion or bag, and workshop ideas for communal crafting. Projects include floral, animal, abstract, and geometric rugs, hangings and runners and templates are provided for those that want to follow the original design. From a simple portrait rug hooked from sheets to a luxurious shell-shaped bag made from silks using an innovative new technique, a range of materials and methods are explored. The book includes step-by-step information on techniques, and expert advice on tools and materials from a leading expert in the field. It also features ideas for rug crafting communally that will appeal to the modern 'stitch and bitch' craft ethos.
