Created to accompany a travelling exhibition starting in Venice in January 2017, this book is illustrated by previously unpublished sketches by the designer, new photography of his favorite shoes, and includes an essay by curator Cristina Albornoz featuring a dozen personal and editorial images of the designer and his work. An exhibition catalogue that delves into the mind of Manolo Blahnik, told through an alphabetical chronicle of the designer's loves and inspirations.
Author Biography
Cristina Carrillo de Albornoz Fisac is an independent art curator, critic, and author. Her work has also been featured in publications including The Art Newspaper, The European, The Observer, Beaux Arts, Architectural Digest Spain, La Reppublica, and the Spanish, Italian, German, and Mexican editions of Vogue. She has curated exhibitions on Balthus, Botero, Wim Wenders, and Frank Stella, and has written on subjects that range from Balthus, Fernando Botero, and Wim Wenders to Mahatma Gandhi and Satyajit Ray. Manolo Blahnik is a Spanish-born shoe designer and founder of his eponymous brand. After completing his architecture studies at the University of Geneva, Blahnik moved to Paris and then London where he opened his first boutique. Since then, his shoe collections have been sought after around the world. Manolos, with their distinctively elegant and sleek look, have been featured on the big screen as well as in popular songs. Blahnik has received over 10 major fashion awards and has been honored by Queen Elizabeth II.
