Description
John Simpson, a British architect of international stature, is a prominent figure among the great classicists at work today. The Architecture of John Simpson follows in Rizzoli's long tradition of publishing classical architecture and is the first book on the firm. This book focuses on residential, commercial, institutional architecture and interior design by eminent London based classical architect John Simpson. Highlights from the book include the Queen's Gallery, Buckingham Palace, and other work for the British royal family, the new school of architecture building at Notre Dame in South Bend, indiana, and the magnificent country house Buckhurst Park in Windsor, England.
Author Biography
John Simpson studied architecture at University College London. He has received numerous coveted and prestigious awards, including the Palladio Award, the Royal Institute of British Architects Award, The Royal Fine Arts Commission Trust Building of the Year Award, the American Institute of Architects Honor Award, and the Arthur Ross Award of the Institute of Classical Architecture, among many others. David Watkin is professor of the history of architecture at the University of Cambridge.
Reviews"Just like a black dress, classical architecture will never go out of style. For proof, flip through the pages of the new book The Architecture of John Simpson: The Timeless Language of Classicism . . . The London-based talent has made an effort not to box himself into a design corner-he's behind the Queen's Gallery in Buckingham Palace, but is also responsible for an American Beaux Arts-style mansion in New York City." -ArchitecturalDigest.com
