Description

Featuring some of the most important garments from the past 200 years-each piece, in and of itself, an innovative contribution to costume history-this book will appeal to a fashion audience as well as to Tilda Swinton's large fan base. The Impossible Wardrobe and Other Couture is an exquisitely illustrated examination of the influence of fashion through iconic pieces, as conceived by Olivier Saillard and interpreted by Tilda Swinton in three groundbreaking exhibitions.

Author Biography

Tilda Swinton is an actress and model. She has appeared in such critically acclaimed films as Orlando, I Am Love, and The Grand Budapest Hotel, and was nominated for a Golden Globe for her performances in The Deep End and We Need to Talk About Kevin. Swinton won the Academy Award in 2007 for her performance in Michael Clayton. Olivier Saillard is director of Palais Galliera, the Paris Museum of Fashion. A renowned fashion historian, he is an author and has curated many successful exhibitions including Christian Lacroix, Fashion Stories (Art Deco Museum, Paris) and Andy Warhol and Fashion (Museum of Fashion, Marseille).

Reviews

"[Saillard and Swinton are] an interesting pair. And, to prove it, they set out to look at 20th century fashion in an entirely new way. They are not the first nor will they be the last, but their approach will probably remain the most intelligent for some time to come. Impossible Wardrobes is the boxed three-volume chronicle of their search for meaning, similarities and wearability of clothes in three shows in different Paris venues." -THE BUSINESS OF FASHION "An amazing three-book box set. Buy [Impossible Wardrobes] for that daydreamy friend of yours who sees the art in fashion - and everywhere else they look." -SWEET via SnapChat "[Impossible Wardrobes] is naturally a quirky affair. It applauds our relationship with clothes and considers couture an art form." -COUNTRY AND TOWNHOUSE MAGAZINE (from 10 of the Best New Coffee Table Fashion Books)
