The challenge of Islam is now an overriding concern. Nobody has a monopoly on the truth and much of the Western liberal tradition has little resonance in countries torn apart by political strife, famine and Aids. Now that the threat of Communism is receding, Islamic fundamentalism is the most potent challenge to the Church's mission.
